How It Works

A hands-on, pounds-off approach to weight loss.®

TOPS doesn't pay celebrities to endorse us, and we don't promise quick fixes or promote unrealistic images of the "perfect" body. Instead we focus on health.
TOPS can't do the work for you. You only get out of TOPS what you put into it. We can't guarantee weight loss just by attending meetings, but we can offer support through each stage of the journey, including after you reach your goal weight.

We're here for you.

Are you ready to stop dieting and start making real changes? TOPS can help you reach your weight-loss goals by providing you with the tools, information, support, and accountability you need to be successful. After all, this has been a winning formula for TOPS members just like you over the last 60-some years.
Weekly meetings can help you take an honest look at the changes you need to make, show you that true health isn't a certain pants size, or even a number on a scale, and help you appreciate who you are on the inside and the outside right now.
What TOPS can't do for you
TOPS can't do the work for you. You only get out of TOPS what you put into it. We can't guarantee weight loss just by attending meetings, but we can offer support through each stage of the journey, including after you reach your goal weight.

How does it work.

You choose to join a local chapter or become an online member. Weekly meetings provide a supportive, educational environment where people are encouraged and not judged.
Weekly meetings are the heart of TOPS' support. They usually last an hour or less.
You're welcome to attend your first meeting free of charge—bring a friend if you like. There's no obligation.
Here’s what you can expect:
  • Each member has a private weigh-in before the meeting.
  • Meeting starts with members sharing challenges, successes, or goals (if they want).
  • There’s a brief program. TOPS gives each chapter engaging, professionally prepared programs covering a variety of health and wellness topics.
  • Awards go to weekly or monthly best losers, contest winners, and members who’ve reached goal!
  • When needed, there’s a quick business meeting before the closing.
  • Meeting closes with a thought for the week or other inspirational activity.

Here are some tips for finding the right chapter for you.

  • Each chapter is a little different, reflecting the interests, ages, and personal preferences of its members. We recommend you visit more than one chapter, if possible, to find the best fit for you. (Keep in mind you can always change chapters in the future if your schedule or needs change.)
  • The Area Captain or Coordinator listed to the right of each chapter meeting is familiar with chapters in your area and would be happy to help you find a good fit.
  • The maximum capacity of each chapter's scale is listed below the meeting time. If a chapter looks like a good fit for you, but the scale won't meet your needs, please reach out to the Area Captain.
  • Once you find a meeting that will work for you, just head on over. Be sure to allow extra time before or after the meeting to chat with the Leader and members so you can find out more.
